Analysis of Three Digipaks
Indie genre
James Blake Front album cover
This relates to my genre as the cover style is not seen a lot and is a bit random. However, the indie genre specify in different. This album simply shows a deep meaning. The indie genre mainly focuses on love, friendship, break ups, pain, depression etc. The blurred image possibly conveys a sense of confusion which therefore penetrates the convention of the indie genre giving me inspirations and relations to my own album cover. From this cover you can easily identify that this cover is from an authentic down beat genre as there are no flashy locations or specific ventures like albums from RnB and HipHop where you can easily identify by the use of colours, images and preferably fonts. In this album you can easily tell that this album has a lot of meaning behind it. The cold colours allow me to specify a deep meaning to the outcome of his songs and is well suitable for my genre.
Ed Sheeran Front Album Cover
Ed sheerans first debut album uses a close up of his face to make sure he is introduced into the industry visibly. The font of the title uses a sort of handwritten style as if print made. As an Indie artist a lot of the singers tend to write their own songs as it allows them to express their emotions through words. The typewriter effect style font could imply that he wrote his own songs. In the indie genre the artists talent is portrayed very strongly and not focused too much on appearance and whether they can dance, it focuses more on the talent and skill. The close up of the face again is not really focused on appearance as the shot of Ed is not sharp but enough to see the facial expression. The simplistic colours and layout shows how incentive the cover is as the use of one colour could be done to simply show just a first start to his journey as an artist. This gives a warm welcoming to the audience as they can easily tell by the facial expression and the eye contact that they will enjoy his songs.
