Analysis Of Real Ancillary Products

Delilah "From The Roots Up"

Choice of font & text/Range of colours:
A distinctive, white font is used on its own, with no other fonts complementing it. This makes a very bold and clear gesture. This, also makes the title of her album and her name stand out as they have no accompanying text beside them. The fact that they used a white coloured font means that it stands out from the dark (black and ashy) background. Again, this makes her album title and name stand out. In the album advertisement, she includes six 4* reviews in the same font as the album title, attracting the audience to the additional information included in comparison to her clear, simple but effective, front album cover. The use of the distinctive font of her name, connected to the triangle which surrounds her in a side profile position, barely wearing anything, connotes the idea of her being fragile and vulnerable as her album introduces her background and what she's been through. Overall, this portrays she will be telling the audience about her 'roots' through her songs.

Synergy links:
In the album advertisement, the front cover of the album is included with a few added elements. This is done with the intention of luring the audience as they want to attract a new audience who has yet to be introduced to the album. For example, Delilah's roots are painted white in the advertisement but are not in the album cover. The release date is also included in the advertisement as a way of promoting her album to the target audience. Also, the 6 reviews are added as a way of ensuring that the album is good, hoping to attract the target audience because of this. The album cover is included in the advertisement: the image of her surrounded by the triangle with the same use of fonts.

Choice of font & text/Range of colours:

The name of the artist is in white, big and bold font which is conventional of ancillary products of all genres as the introduction of the artist has to be clearly made, establishing the artist's name to the audience. The name of the album is in italics, giving a graffiti/hand-written feel, giving a sense of the artist being self-made and authenticity. The white font makes the text stand out from the dark background ensuring that it is eye-catching and grabs the audience's attention.

Synergy links:
In all Devlin's ancillary work, the background of a brick wall is used. This gives the audience an insight of Devlin's past, growing up in an urban area. It portrays the idea that the songs within the album will tell the audience of what he has been through and how he managed to pursue his dream when he started with nothing. Devlin is featured in the album cover and advertisement as his appearance has to be introduced to the new audience. He is positioned at the side of the image and looks over to the text of his name title and name of the album. This suggests to the audience that he will be telling us a story through his songs- a story about him and how he struggled in his past. The fact that his name and album title is positioned in the centre,  gives the idea that his songs and the content of the songs are more important that him and what he looks like.

Choice of text/Range of colours:
There is a strong use of font size and colour throughout all the ancillary products for this band as they use a black and white image for the background and use a contrasting a colour of font; a bright yellow so that the text stands out to the audience. This draws the audience's attention to the name of the band and not the image of the dog in the background. This is because the band want the audience to acknowledge the band for their musical talents, not for their appearance which is why they do not feature their faces on the album or advertisement at all. It is conventional of the Indie-Electro genre to focus more on their musicality, rather than appearance- especially as they are a duo of producers. The fact that they're producers means they are more focused on gaining an audience and strong fan base through the sense of a shared love for their music.

Synergy links:
Throughout all of the ancillary products, the same distinctive colour scheme is used, as well as the same font and image of the dog. As the colours are generically uniquely put together, the audience will recognise which band/artist's album this is just from the use of the colour.
On the album advertisement, tour dates are mentioned and placed on the centre of the page to make the audience aware of the fact that they will be performing at a place near us. Artists that feature on their album are also mentioned on the advertisement which attracts a wider audience through the other artists' established fan base. The band's web page is also mentioned on the album advertisement as a place of where the audience can purchase tickets for the upcoming tour.
