Short List: Fonts, Colours, Layout, Design Ideas

Short List: Fonts, Colours, Layout, Design Ideas

Fonts:
The idea of using a typewriter-like font really stood out to be for multiple reasons.
Example:

The first reason was because type-writers were used in the 80's. This era is also when the Indie genre was created, meaning it will attract my secondary audience of older men as it'll bring them a sense of nostalgia when they see the font as it'll remind them of when they were younger and were first introduced to the Indie genre which they loved then and still do now.
The typewriter-like font will also attract my primary audience of younger boys as it portrays a sense of personal experiences to the album. It is very generic of the Indie genre for the artist to have written his own songs based on his own experiences. Therefore, the typewriter-like font illustrates the idea that this album is very close to the artist's heart and says a lot about the artist's past and life.

Colours:
I think I want to keep the colour scheme to a minimum as it conventional for a Indie artist's album to be very simplistic and natural, which is why I will be using black, white and cream as my colour scheme.
Example:

As you can see, Ben Howard's album used very little colour and remained very simplistic and raw. I like to think that the colour of the album will be brought through the deeply written songs featured on the album. Indie artists tend not to pay much attention to the appearance of the artist, himself and album cover. It is more about how raw and how truthful the songs they write are.

Layout:
As it is the first album of my artist, I want to feature a close up/medium shot of him so there is a clear introduction between him and his intended audience. I want them to recognise him as an artist, through his music and through how he looks.
Example:

I like the idea of having one side dark and one side light. This connotes the idea that the album will tell you a lot about the artist himself and will convey all sides of the artist. It is conventional of the Indie genre for artists to produce music that is personal to them. And I want this idea to be portrayed through my artist's work.

Design Ideas:
The album as a whole will be very simplistic and natural.
The photo will be a simple mid shot/close up shot of the artist with his name in bold writing beside him- along with the album title 'Nostalgia'.
The simple vibe to the appearance of the album is generic of the Indie genre as they are primarily focused on the depth and truth of the music they make.
