Examining Previous Students' Ancillary Products
Group 11:
Andy Travis - Let Her Go
This group, I believe has been very successful with regards to the production of the ancillary products for their artist.
I believe they have portrayed a very clear connection between the ancillary products.
This is evident through their use of props and location- They have included a guitar of the artist's in each photo, making the genre very clear to the audience.
They have also used the same font and colour for the text which shows a clear connection to the audience.
Both the album cover and the advertisement use the location of a street/nature-based setting which is very conventional of the genre they are trying to convey through this artist.
The evidently low-budget location is also very conventional of the Indie genre which means they have correctly represented their artist, ensuring they show a clear connection between the ancillary products.
Group 20:
This group's ancillary products also show a very clear connection between each other:
The use of the font remains the same and is very bold, ensuring the audience sees it and also recognises the connection between the ancillary products.
However, after watching the music video for this artist, I recognised the genre of the artist; I'm assuming it is pop.
If what I assumed is true, then the font doesn't really match the genre as it is very simple and plain.
Also, the nature-related images used are unconventional of the genre they're trying to connote through their images as it is a very flashy, materialistic, appearance-based genre that has little, if any, regard for nature.
The ancillary products made by another member of this group got almost full marks for using bright and strong colours, such as pink and black, and bold fonts, which is more conventional of the pop genre as it is a genre that has a strong focus on appearance as much as musicality.
