Reflecting back on the AS year : What techniques did I learn in the AS year?

Throughout the AS year, we were introduced to a variety of new skills which were useful for improving and enhancing the quality of our work. This also allowed us to gain extra knowledge and different skills that we can then easily use this year.

This is the list of all the techniques that I learnt in AS:

  • How to present work - I learnt different technics on how to present my work rather than just typing up my information and research. I learnt about GIF files, Prezi, Mindmeister, Word clouds, and the usual PowerPoint to make my look interesting to look at.
  • How to use the camera - The first thing I learned was how to turn on a camera and how to set it up, which involved learning about the different features such as the record button, light filter, where the sound mic was applied. I learnt how to insert the memory card, what filter to use when there was too much light, the focus button to capture a shot with a effect.
  • How to use the tripod - The next thing we learned was how to set up the tripod and how to make all three legs even as well as attaching the camera to the tripod carefully.
  • Filming techniques - When it comes to filming, the framing of the camera has to be perfect. The person filming should take into consideration the rule of thirds. I also learned the simple techniques of how and when to pan, tilt and zoom.
  • Final Cut Pro -To edit our film and other shots I used this software. At first it was confusing but I got the hang of it with practise. I was taught how to trim clips, slow clips down, sync sound into clips, change the contrast of the colour to make it look cinematic etc.
