Andrew Goodwin's Theory

Andrew Goodwin's Theory

Amplification:
Ed Sheeran - Give Me Love

Analysis:
This video deepens the meaning of the lyrics. This is portrayed towards the end of the video. The main actress within the video plays a cupid-like character who has the power to make anyone fall in love with whoever she desires. However, we gradually see her character deteriorate as she becomes ill in the sense that she begins to bleed and eventually dies in the end. This deepens the meaning of the lyrics as it connotes the idea that one may crave love because it is an amazing thing, however love can also cause hurt and emotional stress to the point where it could kill you (break your heart).

Illustration:
Pharrell Williams - Happy

Analysis:
This video clearly demonstrates the lyrics. People within the music video 'clap along' to the song as instructed through the lyrics. They dance in a very 'happy' and enthusiastic way with the intention of making the audience feel the same way when they listen to this uplifting song.

Disjuncture:
Rihanna - Stay

Analysis:
This video has almost no connection with the lyrics of the song as the lyrics speak of wanting someone to 'stay'. Whereas, the video simply illustrates the artist in a bath tub singing to the camera. The only way this video may have little connection is if you were to see it in a way where the artist is physically vulnerable as she lays in the bath tub naked which may symbolise her emotional vulnerability as she gives the audience an insight of her feelings of desperation and sadness.
